About

Ron Lydian

Brief Background

Ron Lydian began playing guitar at 13 in 1976, inspired by the classic rock era and the vibrant Los Angeles metal scene. After forming his first band, Ars Nova, in 1983, Ron went on to play in several influential local projects, including Monster Zero, After Zero, and Caution. His work during the 1980s and ’90s immersed him in the emerging LA metal and shred scene, where he crossed paths with many notable musicians and industry figures.

In the mid-1990s, Ron expanded into recording and tribute projects, performing with UFO tribute band Lights Out and contributing guitar to projects including Year of the Dragon and Adwin David Brown’s Bluezeum, released through Telarc Records. He later joined the alternative rock/punk band Cakecutter, whose music eventually appeared on the Jackass movie soundtrack.

In 2002, Ron moved to Berlin, Germany, continuing to perform with various bands and projects. In 2010, Monster Zero reunited after 21 years and returned to the studio.

Today, Ron focuses on guitar gear demos, reviews, covers, and instructional content. In 2025, he released his four-song instrumental metal EP, The Time Has Come, with additional releases planned for 2026 and 2027.

My name is Ron Lydian, a guitarist, composer, producer, and music publisher with more than 40 years of professional experience in rock and metal music. Originally from Southern California, I came of age during the development of the Los Angeles metal and shred-guitar scenes and have performed extensively throughout Southern California and internationally.

My musical influences span British, German, Japanese, and American hard rock and metal, with a particular appreciation for the artists and musical movements that shaped the genre over the past several decades.

With four decades of experience as a professional musician, I bring a combination of performance, songwriting, production, recording, and music-industry experience to my current work.

My goal is to build upon that history while developing Ron Lydian Productions and my current music into a broader international project.

Ultimately, my goal is simple: to share my music with as many people as possible and bring the same sense of excitement, inspiration, and enjoyment to listeners that my own musical heroes brought to me.
